I really enjoy working with my local team. I have learned that I should have worked in private practice far earlier in my career. Some members of management are more involved at a personal level than others. The office culture here is awesome. We all help each other. The hardest part is often the “new programs” that roll out. Also, the lack of paid vacation and the pay structure itself. If not for the crew I work with I would have left already.
Pros
Great staff at Fenton office
Cons
need to expand our office and install security provisions, Need to increase base rate for the high producing team mates.

I have enjoyed my time working at Lifestance for the past few years. As is the case working for any private practice, there are many pros and cons. I’m grateful to work for an organization that accepts insurance, as I believe that financial resources should not be determining factor in a person’s access to quality care. I’m deeply committed to my patients and feel so grateful that Lifestance is able to connect me with members of my preferred population. I never need to worry about having an adequate caseload and appreciate that Lifestance’s billing department takes primary responsibility of managing billing issues. I do however wish that my reimbursement rate was higher, as I’ve found that in certain situations, I only take home about 20% of what Lifestance charges insurance companies. Additionally, I think that as clinicians should be incentivized to expand their clinical knowledge and expertise. I was disappointed when, after having spent thousands of dollars on an EMDR certification, I was not offered any kind of reimbursement or raise.
Pros
Independence, Flexible scheduling, Quality Billing Department
Cons
Low compensation rate, Little room for career growth, No sense of community

Meaningful growth opportunities & real impact for those committed to operational discipline
Pros
LifeStance offers a rare opportunity to scale behavioral health access in a meaningful way. The organization has invested heavily in infrastructure, technology, and growth, which creates real momentum at my state level.
From an operations standpoint, there’s strong visibility into performance through dashboards and reporting, allowing leaders to make data-driven decisions rather than relying on our instincts alone. There is also easy and respected collaboration between ops and clinical leaders at my regional level which has made it so much easier to keep moving forward with change and improvements.
For leaders who are proactive, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity, there is significant opportunity to influence outcomes, build teams, and drive measurable improvements in access, engagement, and patient experience.
Cons
The pace of growth can create strain on systems, workflows, and frontline teams. Not all processes scale as quickly as the organization expands, which can lead to inconsistency across some regions and added pressure on operations leaders to bridge those gaps.
Change is constant new initiatives, tools, and expectations can shift quickly, and not always with perfect clarity at rollout. Leaders need to be comfortable operating in that environment and translating direction into execution locally.
Like many large healthcare organizations, there can be tension between standardization and local flexibility, which requires strong, healthy communication and alignment with department partners and leadership teams to navigate effectively.
Advice to Management
Maintain transparency around the “why” behind decisions.

Clinical Excellence at the core
Pros
At the core, LifeStance is committed to the highest quality care for clients and staff. We are rolling out new initiatives for measurement based care to show effectiveness of mental health treatment overall and to prove that our services have strong value. I enjoy being part of a company that shows it cares at the highest levels of leadership.
Cons
The fee for service model can be difficult for providers just starting out. There are regional differences for some policies, and reviews for one location may not be an accurate reflection across the country. There are many changes as we continue to improve our functioning, and that can be difficult for some.
Advice to Management
Keep seeking feedback from the biannual surveys. Engage all departments in changes before they are rolled out to ensure key steps are not missed in the workflow. Elicit feedback from front line workers before workflows are rolled out.

Supportive, growing organization with strong opportunities and good intentions
Pros
Supportive teams and strong mission-driven work. Leadership encourages collaboration and problem-solving, and I’ve had real opportunities to take ownership and grow. Flexible work options, solid resources, and a focus on quality care make it a good place to build a career. My honest take is this is a young company that grew way faster than expected and its working to catch up to its growth. It has come very far and has people in roles that actually care about delivering high quality care.
Cons
Like any growing organization, processes and communication can change quickly, and some initiatives roll out before everything is fully streamlined. Inconsistency in expectations and procedures has definitely led to poor experiences for some, but honestly the majority of people have a good experience.
Advice to Management
Continue investing in consistent communication and change management across regions. Keep prioritizing staffing support and tools that help teams work efficiently, especially during periods of growth. Maintaining transparency and continue recognizing strong performance.

Supportive environment with quick scheduling
Pros
At LifeStance Health I can provide psychotherapy for my clients and leave the advertisement of services, initial scheduling, billing, and insurance management to the office team. I am provided with an office, computer and technical support. LifeStance is responsive to concerns and has changed platforms and services to address needs of clinicians. My schedule is filled quickly.
Cons
Working with insurance copays and deductibles can be frustrating and expensive for my clients. Not a reflection of the company.

A typical day at work includes seeing 5-7 clients/day, interacting with an excellent Practice Management Team, and meeting with my Clinical Director as needed. I’m learning hard clinical skills as well as building on my existing skill sets. The workplace culture has been welcoming and supportive every step of the way from initial onboarding to the present. Practice Managers go out of their way to reduce clinicians’ stress, allowing clinicians to focus on their core role of providing excellent mental and behavioral health care. There is currently no, “hardest part of the job.” The most enjoyable part of the day is being able to focus on my clients’ needs in a supportive culture that supports independence and flexibility.
Pros
Awesome culture, strong clinical and operational support, and fair compensation.
Cons
I have yet to experience any downsides to working at Lifestance Health.

I have found the atmosphere to be very caring and professional. The management appears to care about the employees and makes every attempt to ensure we are happy. The people I work with are great! They are patient and willing to assist if needed. I love the hybrid part of my position. I enjoy being able to work from home as needed or desired. I am able to manage my own schedule and take time off as needed without worrying.
Pros
caring management, hybrid positions, own control
Cons

-staff connections are difficult to plan around the many meetings and tasks expected for us PGMs to attend/complete
-rewarding role
-pay could be better for the amount of work done by us PGMs
-offices are top notch
-initial trainings could be better
-mission and values are followed
-high amount of work expected to be completed
Pros
Travel to each office, mileage reimbursement, co-workers, mgmt

I have just completed my first year as a remote, outpatient psychotherapist. Owning and managing my own schedule is an adjustment and liberating. I aim to see 6-7 patients per day, I feel fully supported by administrative and clinical staff. Not having paid vacation or days off can be a challenging in a fee-for-service environment. I am able to keep my caseload manageable and have a constant stream of new patients when I need to take on more cases.
Pros
Independence and autonomy
Cons
hard to form work/colleague relationships, no paid time off

I enjoy my job, the team of people I work with from my co-workers, managers Therapists and Psychiatrists, I feel very good about them all. Sometimes the calls from patients can be a little overwhelming, but it’s all in a day’s work. Also, yes, they do add extra work to you on top of the work that you were already assigned when you started, but all in all if you do the work the bonuses will come. I also like that the company promote from within and you have plenty of option and different states to relocate or choose from including working remotely after being with the company for 6months.
Pros
I like that it’s easy to relocate because LS is located in a lot of different cites & states

Plenty of clients
Pros
Each team member is very helpful and supportive. Multiple people have checked in on me to make sure I have anything I need. People are patient in explaining how to use the EHR software.
Cons
35 intakes the week after orientation. I would’ve liked a more gradual build, but it’s great there are plenty of clients for each counselor.

Fee-for-service model encourages burnout
Pros
Local leadership incredibly supportive. Colleagues are wonderfully helpful and supportive. You get to set your own schedule and determine your own hours. Dedicated billing team handles ALL the insurance stuff – you get paid even if insurance hasn’t coughed it up yet.
Cons
Read the fine print on the Clinician Advance — I thought I’d be paying it back in across 9-12 months but they took it out in 2 lump sum payments I’m still trying to recover from a year later. No PTO or holiday pay – if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. No base salary so you’re punished for client cancellations/no-shows. Have to spend multiple hours a month on mandatory training without pay.

Growing Company, Great Mission
Pros
Pay is fair. Work is meaningful. Mission and purpose of the company contributes positively to society – over a million individuals in the U.S. use services annually.
Cons
As positive as an experience it has been so far, Lifestance is a public company and, as such, is subject to quarterly earnings pressures.
Advice to Management
Management has a lot of continuity in it with the recent promotion of an internal candidate for CEO. Keep the management in place so the company can continue to drive towards it’s mission of creating affordable behavioral care opportunities to Americans.
